The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is one of the seven man-made wonders of the world, and their new website is the eighth.
Tasked with redesigning an HTML site that was old enough to be in seventh grade, we started from the ground up. We analyzed the needs of users, keeping in mind that various stakeholders in the project would have different needs: a nonprofit governing board, contractors, truck drivers, locals and commuters, tourists and engineering buffs would all visit the site for different reasons. Content was organized and presented accordingly.
We brought emergency alerts like weather-related closings to a prominent position with a custom-programmed Twitter feed. We also developed a custom toll calculator. With a completely overhauled, fully responsive design, the site looks great on mobile so that users can get important information on the go.
The result is a beautiful, dynamic website that speaks to both the history and the future of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel.
